About The Workshop

Values are at the heart of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. But they are not just an intervention we do with clients. In this training, we will explore how values can create a shared therapeutic framework, helping everyone involved—the client, therapist, and other stakeholders—work toward what matters most to the client. When we orient toward what matters rather than what we want to eliminate, we open up new possibilities for connection and movement, even when people have different ideas about specific outcomes, priorities, or how to get there.

This workshop moves beyond helping clients identify their values to explore how values can be used flexibly and relationally to orient therapy and help clinicians work more effectively with clients. We’ll look at how to navigate moments when values get lost in the mix of competing goals and agendas, and how to keep returning to client values when choosing committed actions, evaluating progress, and deciding whether to persist or change course. Finally, clinicians will practice values-guided informed consent as a way to orient and ground therapy from the beginning and help everyone stay on the same page as treatment unfolds.
